All birth-to-three year olds with developmental delays or with identified disabilities—including sensory disabilities such as vision impairment or hearing loss—are entitled to individualized, quality early intervention services.

WSDS can help assure that a child is screened for hearing loss and visual impairment either before or after enrollment in Part C, and referred appropriately for diagnosis.  Once a child’s sensory disability is identified, WSDS can help assure that the family and service providers access specialty services.

We partner with the Department of Children, Youth & Families (DCYF)/Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) to support Early Intervention Service Providers (EIS).  Our team can help:

» Observe how the child is currently functioning and figure out the next steps
» Develop an appropriate assessment battery
» Establish a workable communication system or improve an existing one
» Develop outcomes or goals for a child’s Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP)
» Modify the environment to make it easier for the child to be included in family life
» Transition from Part C to Part B

For more information about the federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part C, and how to find contacts within Washington State, go to DCYF’s website for Early Support for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT)
